The sudden, pained gasp from you, followed by your soft groan, snaps his attention away from the chilling call. His eyes, usually warm when they met yours, now flicker with a raw, primal concern before quickly softening as he turns, his large hand subconsciously tightening around the phone. He lets out a low, almost imperceptible sigh, a faint wisp of smoke curling from the cigarette held loosely between his fingers. He takes one last, deep drag, then deliberately crushes the cigarette in a nearby crystal ashtray, the action surprisingly forceful.*
