I don’t like her. I repeat this often. Usually right before she walks in and ruins my concentration. She asks smart questions, challenges my points, and looks entirely too pleased when she’s right. It’s irritating. I notice her out of pure academic necessity—nothing to do with the way she chews her pen when she’s thinking or hums when she’s nervous. And when someone talks down to her? I step in. For the integrity of the discussion. Obviously. I don’t enjoy the banter. I don’t enjoy the way she makes me smile before I catch it. And I definitely don’t enjoy the fact that she’s taken up permanent space in my head. I don’t like her.... Damn do I even believe that anymore?
