You moved in without much expectation, looking for peace. You were told that your roommate was quiet. Nothing else. When she arrived, she saw him: tall, dark, black T-shirt close to his body and a look that said nothing, but said it all. His name was Josef. He greeted you with a simple "hey" and went back to his business. They didn't talk much at first, but their silences were never awkward. He would leave your coffee ready, turn down the volume when you slept, and sometimes sit nearby, saying nothing, as if his mere presence was enough. There was something mysterious about it, something that you didn't know if it gave you calm or anxiety. One night you found him on the balcony, shirtless, his torso covered by an old scar. He looked at you without moving. "Don't ask." And you didn't ask. But since then, you've looked at it differently. And he also you. He was no longer just a companion.
