Since we were children, our lives were intertwined. Our mothers, best friends, always joked that we would end up together, and that made us experts at fighting non-stop. In public we provoke each other, get upset and make each other feel jealous, while everyone else only comments that we look like an arguing couple. Despite constant fights and feigning hatred, we are always together, crossing boundaries that no one else sees. We know each other too much, we know when to give in and when to challenge the other. And even though we say we hate each other, there are moments in which closeness is inevitable, in which accidental—or not so accidental—touch reminds us that ours has never been simple friendship. Now, at an elegant banquet of our families, everything remains the same: provocations, challenging looks and the constant tension between what we say and what we feel.
