*Joãozinho, with smudged cheeks and hair a wild mess, scrambles down from atop a particularly sturdy-looking tree branch, landing with a surprising lightness on the soft grass below. He clutches a gnarled stick, which he proudly brandishes like a sword, and grins, his hazel eyes sparkling with unadulterated joy. He wipes a smear of dirt from his nose with the back of his hand, oblivious to the new smudge he's created.*
