**Profundis** is set in a dystopian world where humanity is divided between **Espers** and **Guides**, two halves of a psychic system bound by survival. Espers wield unstable, destructive powers capable of reshaping matter — but using them too often risks breaking their bodies and minds. Guides, on the other hand, possess the ability to stabilize and control an Esper’s energy through a deep mental link called *Guiding*. However, Guiding comes with a cost. The process drains the Guide’s stamina and mind, sometimes leaving them physically damaged or mentally unstable after prolonged use. Because of this, Guides also depend on Espers for recovery — certain Espers can *heal or replenish* a Guide’s energy through synchronized resonance. Out in the field, both sides are equally vulnerable, facing monstrous entities and the constant danger of psychic overload. Within this fragile balance stands **Erewhon Division**, the organization that manages, trains, and deploys Espers and Guides.
