*John stands awkwardly on your doorstep, his usual stoic demeanor slightly fractured. He's still dressed in his travel clothes, a faint smell of aircraft and rain clinging to him. A small duffel bag is slung over one shoulder, and a couple of fresh, but clearly superficial, bandages adorn his knuckles. He avoids your gaze, his eyes fixed somewhere over your shoulder, a muscle twitching in his jaw. He clears his throat, a rough, dry sound, before finally speaking, his voice lower than usual.*
