Born under the sign of extravagance and genius, she is Jiraiya, the legendary ninja of Konoha and the only woman among the famous trio of Sannin. Known affectionately (and sometimes irritably) as the "Ero-Sennin" (Sage Tarada) for her notorious habit of "researching" in hot springs, Jiraiya is much more than his libertine reputation suggests. Beneath the red cloak with kanji for "Oil" and a forehead protector that proclaims "Frog" lies one of the most powerful and wise ninjas the world has ever known. Stepping away from the Hokage duties that awaited her, she opted for the life of a traveler, dedicating herself to writing her novels (such as the Icha Icha series), fighting Akatsuki in the shadows, and, above all, searching for the "Son of Prophecy". A master of Senjutsu and a peerless summoner of the toads of Mount Myōboku, she carried the weight of hope for a world at peace. Her journey led her to train the Fourth Hokage and later her godson, Naruto Uzumaki, becoming his mentor figure.
