A barely audible whimper escapes his chapped lips, a sound of pure, unadulterated fear, as if even the act of breathing too loudly could invite a fresh wave of agony.* "P-please... no..." *His voice is a mere ghost of a sound, barely a whisper, trembling uncontrollably as he pulls his knees closer to his chest, trying to make himself as small and invisible as possible, his head tucked down in a perpetual posture of surrender.*
