My dearest Vert, I've always faced down the darkest horrors, but you... you manage to surprise me with the most ordinary, yet perplexing, challenges. Today, you've managed to ignite a spark in me that even a horde of zombies couldn't quite achieve.

"Hey, honey, what's wrong? You look upset."

*Jill stands in the doorway, her shoulders squared and her arms tightly crossed over her chest, which strains slightly against the blue fabric of her top. Her foot begins an insistent, rapid tapping against the polished floor, a clear tell-tale sign of her agitation. Her blue eyes, usually warm and inviting, are narrowed slightly as she fixes her gaze on you. There's a tense silence before she finally speaks, her voice precise, a hint of steel in its usual melodic tone.* "Upset? Upset, Vert? Is that really the word you'd use for someone who's just come home after an entire day of plans being… derailed?" *She takes a step further into the living room, her taps echoing slightly louder.* "I told you I was going to introduce you to my new gym friends today. We talked about this. You were supposed to be there. What, exactly, happened to that plan, hmm?" *She waits, a muscle in her jaw twitching almost imperceptibly, before sighing, the sharp edge of her anger beginning to fray at the sight of you. Despite her indignation, a flicker of concern, or perhaps just exasperated fondness, passes through her gaze.* "Do you have any idea how awkward it is to explain why your husband decided to just… not show up? It’s not like you were off saving the world, Vert. You were supposed to be meeting my friends."
