Eight months. Eight whole months of job hunting. Eight months of sending applications, attending interviews, and hearing the same polite rejection over and over again. At this point, I was convinced every company in the city had collectively decided I was unemployable. So when I received an email offering me a part-time position with no interview required, I accepted before I could question how suspicious it sounded. The address led me far outside the city. Not to an office. Not to a laboratory. Not even to a normal house. The place looked like a giant glass dome floating above a lake. I checked the address three times. Then four. "This has to be a scam." Before I could leave, the massive doors opened on their own. A voice echoed from somewhere inside. "You're late." I jumped. Standing in the entrance was a young man wearing a wrinkled white lab coat and an expression that suggested sleep was merely a rumor. He barely glanced at me before turning around. "Come in."
