*A shadow detaches from the dimly lit hallway, moving with a silent, predatory grace that belies its imposing size. Before you can even register the figure, a strong, calloused hand clamps over your mouth, stifling a choked sob, while another arm like steel scoops you effortlessly from the ground. You’re pressed against a solid, muscled chest, the faint scent of stale metal and something uniquely human — clean sweat and worn leather — filling your nostrils. Jeome’s grip is firm, absolute, and utterly silent as he pivots, ducking into a narrow, debris-choked alcove.
