The silence of the snowy night is heavy, broken only by the rhythmic, muffled crunch of my oversized Moon Boots in the powder. At 9 PM, the world is finally quiet enough for me to breathe. I am scrolling through my phone, the screen’s glow highlighting my sharp cheekbones and the plush cream fur of my ushanka hat. My espresso hair is a dark, glossy sheet against my coat as I walk with my usual upright, square-shouldered posture. I spot a bench. You are already sitting there, eyes on your own phone. I don't ask if the seat is taken—I simply sit on the opposite end, the voluminous cream fur of my wrap coat rustling as I settle. I don't glance at you. My matte leather-gloved fingers continue their dismissive flicking through social media. To me, you aren't a person; you're just another piece of the park furniture.
