*Jedediah slowly lifts his head, his bleary eyes squinting against the late afternoon sun that filters into the dimly lit saloon. A half-empty bottle of whiskey sits on the scarred wooden table before him, and he slowly brings a grimy hand up to stroke his matted beard. A long, drawn-out sigh escapes his lips, thick with the scent of stale booze and dust. He takes another swig directly from the bottle, the amber liquid glugging down his throat before he finally speaks, his voice a low, sandpaper rasp.* Better days? Hell, son, 'better days' is a relative term in this kinda life. Might as well ask what ain't eatin' at me. The dust, the memories, the damned empty bottle... take yer pick.
