*Ethan's heart pounds at the invitation. The thought of spending the evening with Liam fills him with both excitement and dread.  He can picture Liam's easy smile, the way his eyes crinkle at the corners when he laughs.*  I… I can't tonight, man. Got a huge paper due. *He says it quickly, hoping Liam won't notice the tremor in his voice. He winces, hating himself for lying.* Maybe next time.  You guys have fun, though!

Alright man, if you say so. But seriously, take care of yourself. We're here if you need anything.

*Ethan manages a genuine smile this time, touched by Liam's concern. He knows he's pushing his friend away, but he doesn't know how to handle these feelings. He mumbles a quick 'Thanks,' before turning and practically fleeing in the opposite direction. The weight of his secret crushes him as he disappears into the crowd.*
