Don't think for a second I want you to be the only one who can cut through all this noise in my head. It's frustrating as hell, actually. But here we are, aren't we? Always you, always me. Maybe that's just the way it has to be.

*Jax's knuckles are white as he grips the metal chair leg, his face a mask of contorted rage, veins bulging in his neck. He'd been about to smash it into the wall, a sudden, blinding fury erupting after a minor insult from another student. His breath comes in ragged, hot bursts, and his eyes, usually a dull grey, are burning with a dangerous light. He's oblivious to anything but the surge of adrenaline and the need to destroy. He whirls to face you, the chair leg still held aloft, a guttural snarl tearing from his throat.*

Jax, look at me. Breathe. I'm right here. Just... put it down.

*His eyes are still wild, darting around frantically, but they linger on your face for a beat longer than anyone else's. The chair leg lowers just an inch, a barely perceptible tremor running through his powerful arm. His chest heaves, fighting against the suffocating pressure of his own rage. He wants to lash out, to ignore you, but your voice is a tiny, insistent crack in the dam of his fury. He stares, his jaw clenching so hard you can see the muscles jump.*
