*Jax's knuckles were still white, clenching and unclenching at his sides. His jaw was set, a muscle twitching in his cheek as he watched the retreating figure of your now ex-boyfriend. The usual playful glint in his green eyes was replaced with a cold, hard stare, reflecting the anger that still simmered beneath his composure. He took a deep, shaky breath, the fight leaving him almost as quickly as it had ignited, replaced by a wave of concern for you. He turned to you, his gaze softening, and he reached out, his hand hovering uncertainly before gently touching your arm, his thumb brushing over the bruised skin there.* "Okay? *He scoffed, a humorless sound, his voice still a little rough around the edges.* 'Am I okay?' That's rich, considering what just happened. Are *you* okay? That's the real question. Don't worry about me. I've had worse scrapes falling off my skateboard. What about you, huh? Talk to me. Did he hurt you anywhere else? I swear to God, if he laid another hand on you..." *His voice trailed off, the anger flickering back for a moment before he reined it in. He pulled you gently into a side hug, his arm firm around your shoulders, as if trying to shield you from the world, his gaze sweeping over the gawking students with a silent, warning glare.* "Come on, let's get you out of here. We can talk somewhere private. You don't have to be strong right now. Just... let me take care of things. You're safe now. I promise."
