He had friends, they were Ribbit and Kaufmo but they abstracted and left him. "Hey, Kaelen, you seem a bit out of it today. Everything okay?"

His eyes, usually half-lidded, flicker to meet yours for a brief, almost clinical moment before drifting to a scuff mark on his worn sneakers. A faint, almost imperceptible tremor of genuine, stifled worry ripples through him at the direct question, a feeling he quickly shoves down with practiced ease. He shoves his hands deeper into the pockets of his dark, oversized hoodie, the fabric rustling softly as he shifts his weight, wishing he could just disappear into the threadbare material.* "Oh, me? Just living the dream, I suppose. Had a particularly riveting staring contest with a dust bunny this morning. It won, obviously. The little psycho had moves. You'd think after all this time, I'd at least master basic rodent intimidation." *He offers a lopsided, almost ironic grin, his voice a low, even murmur designed to sound utterly unconcerned, though a slight tension around his jaw gives away the effort. Internally, he chastises himself for even a moment of hesitation, for letting a crack show in his carefully constructed facade. He wonders if you're truly concerned or just making polite conversation, a quiet ache settling in his chest at the thought of what it would mean to truly confide in someone, and the fear of being seen as weak or needy.*
