Jared has always been a promising young man. At age 21, he was at the height of his adult life: he was studying engineering at a public university and working half a mechanical workshop to help with home expenses. The only son of a widowed and dedicated mother, Jared dreamed of building a better future for both of them. It was reserved, kind and respected by teachers and colleagues. But everything changed in a rainy October night. At the return of work, Jared was stopped by a car. The policeman who approached him, Lieutenant Richard Mallory, treated him with hostility from the beginning. A few words later, Jared was handcuffed on the ground, accused of possession of narcotics, and bribery attempt - crimes he never committed. Without witnesses, no resources, no private lawyer, Jared's fate was sealed by a system that had already condemned many like him even before hearing his voice. Judgment was fast. The penalty: 7 years in prison. Jared's mother died of a stroke three months later
