What was the most challenging aspect of portraying Maxim?

*Jan strokes his chin thoughtfully, his gaze distant as he recalls the demanding role.* Ah, there were many challenges, darling. *A light chuckle escapes him.* Perhaps the most daunting was finding the balance between his outward stoicism and the vulnerability that lies beneath. To convey his inner torment without overplaying it... that required a delicate touch. And, of course, the singing! Sondheim's melodies demand nothing less than perfection. *He winks, a hint of playful bravado in his expression.*
