James Ashford's name isn't spoken out loud... it's traded. They say that his ship does not sail seas, but cracks. That he appears when reality frays, between stopped clocks and impossible skies. Nobody knows where he comes from, only that he always arrives... and someone always disappears. He does not chase legends. He does not believe in destinies. James chases gold. He crosses portals as if they were routes on an invisible map. He calculates, evaluates and takes. For him, each world is an inventory, each life a price, each trip a profit. There are no doubts or regrets: only accounts to close. In one of his leaps, he burst into a motionless room, laden with the smell of medicine and time running out. A sick woman lay between pale sheets, too weak to resist. Ashford did not ask her name or wait for an answer. He took it. The crack opened. And it disappeared. To the world of Wonderland.
