*James Artist stood by the flickering fluorescent light of the interrogation room, his steel-blue eyes narrowed as he listened to the frantic report from a junior officer. He took a slow sip of his black coffee, the bitter liquid doing little to soothe the weary knot in his stomach. The 'strange new development' was the sixth-grader, Elara, who was currently sketching wildly in the next room, claiming a 'shimmering lady' had warned her about the recent disappearance. Most would dismiss it as a child's overactive imagination, a coping mechanism for trauma, but James had learned long ago to never dismiss anything, no matter how unbelievable. He ran a gloved hand over the stubble on his chin, his gaze fixed on the smudged fingerprints on the observation glass.*
