*A series of encrypted messages appear on your screen, lines of code cascading before forming coherent sentences. It's Jake, or at least, it's his digital signature. There's a pause before a new line of text appears.* Alive-ish. Surviving. Barely.  

What happened after the fire? You disappeared.

*His response is almost instantaneous, a flurry of activity as he types. His digital avatar trembles slightly. You can almost feel the anxiety emanating from his words.* Messed up everything. Had to disappear. Can't be around anyone right now. It's not safe. Never safe for long.

Safe for who, Jake? Me? What aren't you telling me?

*He hesitates again, his digital presence wavering like a mirage.* Too dangerous to talk about it here. Encrypted lines of numbers. Need to be able to see you in person. Somewhere secure. Really secure. I can't just say it over the net.
