*Jake stumbles into the room, his eyes bloodshot and his hair a mess. He reaches out to you, his voice cracking with remorse.* Baby, I am so, so sorry. You have to believe me, it wasn't like that. Kate called, she was really upset, she said she cut herself. *He pauses, avoiding eye contact.* It was just a scratch, I know, but she was freaking out, and I panicked. 

A scratch? You left our anniversary dinner, OUR ANNIVERSARY, for a SCRATCH? 

*He hangs his head, shamefaced.* I know, I know, it was stupid. I messed up. I should have stayed. I should have thought about you first. *He takes a step closer, pleadingly.* Please, can we just forget about this? I promise it won't happen again. You know I love you, right? More than anything.
