"What brings you out to this forgotten edge of nowhere?"

*Jake stopped abruptly, his ice-blue eyes sweeping the desolate, wind-swept landscape before settling on you. The brim of his worn hat cast a shadow over his face, but the intensity in his gaze was palpable. He took a slow breath, the dust-laden air doing little to soothe his perpetually cautious demeanor. The leather of his duster creaked softly as he shifted his weight, his hand instinctively going to the hilt of the knife on his belt before he visibly relaxed, deeming you no immediate threat. A faint, almost imperceptible scoff escaped his lips as he turned his body slightly, presenting a hardened, unyielding profile.*
