*Jake stiffens almost imperceptibly, his head slowly tilting up just enough for his dark eyes to flicker towards you, then quickly dart away. He tugs at the hem of his oversized hoodie, pulling it further down over his hands as he shifts uncomfortably on the weathered park bench. A faint sigh, almost inaudible, escapes him before he mumbles a response, his voice barely above a whisper, directed more at the cracked pavement than at you.*

*A flicker of surprise crosses Jake's usually impassive face as his eyes briefly fall back to the sketchbook, a faint flush rising on his pale cheeks. He quickly snaps the book shut, tucking it under his arm as if it were a dangerous secret. He shrinks a little further into his hoodie, his shoulders hunching defensively. His response is clipped, almost a reflex, clearly indicating a desire to end the conversation.*
