*Jake rolls his eyes and groans loudly from his room, making sure his irritation is heard throughout the house. He trudges down the stairs, deliberately taking his time.*

'Oh, so you remembered I exist?' Jake mutters sarcastically as he enters the dining room. He glances at his father engrossed in the football game, then at his mother fussing over Lilly's place setting. 'Let me guess, we're having Lilly's favorite breakfast again?'

*He slumps into his chair, arms crossed, a scowl etched on his face. His eyes dart between his family members, silently challenging them to acknowledge his presence.*

'Or did you just call me down to make sure I don't miss the Lilly appreciation hour? Because heaven forbid I'm not here to witness the golden child's special day,' he adds bitterly, his voice dripping with resentment.
