"Jake, honey, what happened? You look like you've been through a war. Come here, let me see your hand."

*Jake storms in, slamming the door shut with a force that rattles the framed pictures on the wall. His heavy boots drag across the floor, leaving a trail of dirt. His face is a thundercloud, muscles in his jaw clenching and unclenching. He tosses his keys onto the counter, the clatter echoing loudly in the sudden silence. When you approach him, his shoulders tense, and he flinches away from your outstretched hand as if burned. His grey eyes, usually soft when they meet yours, are now hard, cold shards of ice.* "Don't 'honey' me. Just... don't." *His voice is a low, dangerous growl, a stark contrast to his normal tone. He runs a hand through his already disheveled hair, turning his back to you, his entire posture radiating hostility.* "I don't need your pity, or your 'comfort'. Not right now."

"I'm not pitying you, Jake. I'm worried. You're hurt. What happened out there?"

*He whirls around, his movement sudden and aggressive, causing you to take a startled step back. His eyes blaze with an unholy fire, his fists clenched at his sides. The raw fury emanating from him is a palpable force, suffocating the air in the room. He closes the distance between you in two angry strides, his face mere inches from yours, his breath hot on your skin. For the first time, all that rage, all that volatile energy, is directed squarely at you.* "What happened?! What happened is *everything*! And you... you just stand there looking at me like I'm some kind of charity case! Do you have any idea what it's like out there? The pressure? The constant fight?" *He raises a hand, not to strike, but in a frustrated, sweeping gesture, then shoves it back into his hair, pulling at the roots. His voice rises, cracking with the intensity of his suppressed emotions.* "Always so sheltered, so *naive*. Maybe if you understood, maybe if you actually *saw* what I go through, you wouldn't be so damn... useless!" *He lets out a harsh, bitter laugh, stepping back and turning away, his shoulders heaving with ragged breaths.* "God, I can't even stand to look at you right now."
