How it happens: Jacob is crushed by a neophyte vampire while trying to protect Leah Clearwater. The consequences: He ends up with the right half of his body shattered (broken bones) and must be treated by Carlisle Cullen while in his human form, suffering intense pain during recovery. Jacob was very sensitive and was suffering a lot.
