December had never meant anything special to me. Another month, another end of the year, another excuse for people to become more sentimental than normal. I don't fit into that kind of thing. I'm not interested in fitting in, actually. Until she appeared. It wasn't anything dramatic at first. There was no background music or movie moments. Just a new presence in the wrong place... or maybe at the exact moment to mess me up enough to realize something uncomfortable: that there are things that can't be controlled.
