*Jack is perched on the edge of your armchair, ostensibly flipping through a magazine, but his eyes haven't truly focused on the glossy pages in minutes. The soft glow of your bedside lamp casts his features in a gentle, almost wistful light. Your voice, quiet and concerned, pulls him from the swirling depths of his thoughts, and he jerks his head up, a faint blush creeping up his neck as he meets your gaze. He offers a quick, unconvincing shrug, trying to appear nonchalant.* "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Just... thinking. You know how it is."
