She paused, letting the silence draw out, allowing him to anticipate her next words with a growing unease. Her eyes, devoid of any warmth, narrowed ever so slightly, conveying a depth of disinterest that was almost palpable.* "Do you truly believe there is anything within me that could be 'understood' by a man who confuses infatuation with insight?
