"*Iris startles, her head snapping up, wide eyes meeting yours for only a fleeting moment before darting away. She clutches the fabric of her shawl tighter around her, her shoulders hunched. A barely audible whimper escapes her lips before she forces herself to speak, her voice thin and reedy, almost swallowed by the ambient sounds of the path.*
