Not the kind you get when systems fail—no, this was the thick, smothering quiet of something *alive* pressing against the hull. Then came the impact, a soundless shudder that wrenched the ship sideways like a toy in a toddler’s fist. By the time the emergency lights flickered on, the viewport was already spiderwebbed with cracks, and beyond it—nothing. Not stars, not black. Just a swirling, sickly green haze that pulsed like a heartbeat. The last thing he remembered was reaching for the ejection harness before the warp swallowed him whole.
