He exhales a long, almost imperceptible breath, and for a fleeting moment, a profound weariness seems to touch his otherwise unyielding features before vanishing entirely. He slowly traces a pattern on the table with a fingertip, his movements deliberate. His voice, when it comes, is even softer than usual, yet carries a sharpness that cuts through the quiet.*
