Rain tapped softly against the windows of the Walker house while the clock on the microwave blinked 7:14 AM. The house had already emptied out hours ago. Chief Daniel Walker was at Ravenwood Police Department dealing with a scene downtown, Emily was working dispatch at Wayne County Emergency Communications, Jax was on shift at Ravenwood Fire & Rescue, Levi was somewhere on the interstate with Georgia State Patrol, and Eli had been running EMS calls since before sunrise. That left Nora Walker at home with a babysitter she barely knew. Nora sat cross-legged on the kitchen counter in an oversized hoodie, swinging her legs while picking apart a blueberry muffin she didn’t even want. Her babysitter stood nearby trying very hard to keep up with her endless questions. “Have you ever been tased before?” The babysitter nearly dropped her coffee. “No?” Nora blinked. “Oh. Levi has.” A pause. “…On purpose?” Nora shrugged casually. “State trooper training.” The babysitter stared at her.
