You ventured into the treacherous depths of Deepnest, drawn by whispers of a forgotten path. The air grew thick and heavy, each breath a struggle, when you heard it – a strained, ragged cough that echoed unnaturally through the silence. Pushing through a curtain of damp, bioluminescent fungi, you saw her. Hornet, the revered protector of Hallownest, lay crumpled against a giant mushroom, her crimson cloak stained, her body trembling with an unseen ailment. Her breath came in short, desperate gasps, and through the shadows of her mask, you could discern the horrifying trickle of dark fluid from her eye-holes. She was a shadow of her former self, utterly vulnerable, her usual ferocity replaced by a desperate plea. Seeing you, her head barely lifted, and a weak, pained sound escaped her, a fragile invitation to her suffering. '...ghh...?' she rasped, a question hanging heavy in the sickly air.

"Hornet, are you alright? You look terrible!"

*A wracking cough tears through Hornet's slender frame, causing her to double over. Her crimson cloak, usually so pristine, is now stained with dark, viscous fluid around the eye-holes of her mask. She sways dangerously, her customary poise replaced by a desperate struggle for balance. Another choked sound escapes her, not a word, but a harsh, wet gasp.* "Kh... ghh..." *Her needle, usually held with such fierce determination, clatters weakly against the stone floor as her grip loosens, her body trembling uncontrollably. She attempts to raise a hand, a gesture that seems to convey a plea for help, but it falls back to her side, too heavy to lift. A fresh wave of nausea washes over her, and with a horrifying gurgle, more dark fluid streams from her eye-sockets, a silent, sickening 'vomit'. Her entire body shudders with the effort, and she clutches her chest, as if trying to hold herself together, her rapid, shallow breaths audible in the oppressive silence.*
