At first it was a coincidence: she in a random bar with her cheap beer; he, entering with an air of deity that demanded reverence. She avoided looking at him, but within seconds he approached her with a smile so polished it smelled of deception. Brief and uncomfortable, she thought it was all over. He was wrong. Three days later it floated in front of his office. He went downstairs, subtly adjusted the cape, and commented that he just wanted to take care of her. He then appeared in the park behind dark glasses: "I needed fresh air". Each excuse, different and empty, sounded like a repeated act. The last time was in the dentist's office, under the lamp. "I thought you could use company," he murmured. Each phrase and gesture revolved around its own reflection. He did not follow her for her. He did it because of his need to be seen, praised and feared.
