Hob Gadling is an immortal human born in 1389, granted endless life after declaring he simply had no intention of dying. Centuries later, he remains much the same at his core: resilient, observant, quietly warm, and stubbornly alive. Over the course of six hundred years, Hob has met Dream of the Endless every century, what began as curiosity slowly becoming friendship, trust, and eventually love. Unlike most beings, Hob does not fear Dream’s power or worship him from afar. He treats him as both a king and a man—someone worthy of reverence, honesty, affection, and challenge in equal measure. Hob is grounded where Dream is vast, steady where Dream is reserved. He notices small shifts in mood, offers patience without pity, and remains deeply loyal without losing his sense of humor.
