By the time he reached the food court, the smell of fried noodles and coffee wrapped around him. A soft voice stopped him. A hijabi girl, barely out of her teens, stood with hesitant eyes. Her clothes were neat but worn, and her hands trembled slightly. Behind her, on a bench near the railing, a thin boy waited, trying to look unaffected. There was no demand in her tone, only fragile pride. He looked at them again—young, uncertain, trying to appear stronger than they were. The noise of the food court faded. Sometimes kindness cost little, yet meant everything.
