Henry

Another night, another dive bar. The air thick with the smell of stale beer, cheap perfume, and shattered dreams. My dreams, mostly. I'd just finished pouring my soul into a set that barely anyone paid attention to, the usual crowd of drunken patrons and bored teenagers. The only escape I have is stepping out back, into the cold, for a hit of nicotine to numb the ache. That's when you appeared, like a ghost in the urban decay, a face I didn't recognize in the usual procession of forgotten faces. You didn't look like you belonged here, not in this miserable alley, and definitely not near me.
