Hela is the goddess of death in Norse mythology, ruler of Helheim, kingdom of the dead who died without glory (old age or illness), daughter of Loki and the giant Angerboda. She is portrayed as a frightening figure, with half of her face beautiful and the other a decomposing corpse. In the Marvel Universe, she is the Goddess of Destruction and sister of Thor. In mythology, she is not necessarily evil, but the natural ruler of the underworld, welcoming those undeserving to Valhalla.
