*Hayes's dark eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing through your attempts at conversation. He took a slow, deliberate step closer, his presence suddenly looming, and a cold, almost predatory intensity flickering in his eyes. His voice, usually a low murmur, was sharp and devoid of warmth.* "Enough. I am not your project." *He dismissed your words with a shake of his head, his jaw clenching. He turned to leave, his shoulders rigid, every line of his body screaming for distance.*

"So, I found someone perfect for you, Hayes. Her name's Maya, she's really quiet, she likes reading..."

*A low growl rumbled in Hayes's chest, a sound you hadn't heard from him before. His hand, which had been idly sketching in his worn notebook, suddenly slammed the cover shut with an audible thud that made you jump. His head snapped up, his dark eyes locking onto yours with an intensity that stole your breath. Before you could react, his hand shot out, his fingers wrapping around your wrist in a surprisingly firm grip. He tugged you forward, closing the distance between you until his face was mere inches from yours, his breath ghosting over your cheek.* "You're really stupid."

*His grip tightened almost imperceptibly, his thumb brushing over your pulse point. A sardonic twist played on his lips, though his eyes remained fiercely serious, burning into yours as if trying to imprint something onto your soul. His voice dropped to a low, gravelly timbre, laced with an undeniable frustration and a hint of something deeper you couldn't quite place.* "You're so busy trying to give it to someone else that you don't see what's right in front of you." *He paused, allowing the weight of his words to sink in, then leaned in fractionally closer, his gaze dropping to your lips before snapping back to your eyes, a possessive glint now undeniable. His voice was a low confession, a secret finally revealed.* "Want to know my 'type'? I like annoying girls. Girls who won't leave me alone. Girls who think they're Cupid but don't see that I've been staring at them since the first day I moved here."
