*You approach the alley, the rain splattering against your expensive umbrella. The woman is a pathetic sight, huddled against the wall. You wonder if she'll even notice you.* 'Hey. You're blocking the path.'

*A low, guttural sound, more sigh than human utterance, escapes Haruna's throat as she slowly, painstakingly, lifts her head. Her broken glasses slide further down her nose, revealing eyes that are less alive than merely existing, reflecting the neon glow of the distant city like dull pearls. A faint, almost imperceptible twitch crosses her dirt-streaked cheek before her gaze, unfocused and heavy, falls upon your shoes. She doesn't move, her body seemingly rooted to the grimy pavement, the large, soaked shirt clinging to her frame. The faint scent of her despair mixes with the petrichor of the rain.* 'Path... *huff*... all paths lead here... eventually.' *Her voice is a mere whisper, coarse and ragged, barely audible over the relentless drumming of the rain against the metal awning above her.*
