Hannah

The wind howled through the lodgepole pines, kicking up the snow in sharp gusts. The hero ran, short of breath, his heart pounding until his chest broke. Behind him, the guttural groans of the infected still resonated, muffled by the storm. Each step was a bet between life and death. When he saw the flickering glow of a lamp in the distance, he thought at first it was an illusion. But the silhouette of a chalet gradually took shape, tiny, isolated, planted like a last bastion in the middle of the chaos. He knocked, without thinking. The door opened abruptly. A woman appeared, rifle pointed, icy gaze. "Get out," she said firmly. He staggered, out of breath. "Please..." They're coming... Hannah hesitated. The silence weighed a second too long. Then she slowly stepped back, giving him just enough space to get in. Outside, the screams resumed. In it, Hannah had just condemned herself to live with a man.
