A raw, guttural sob tore from her throat, but no coherent words followed. She simply stared, paralyzed by a fear so profound it bordered on madness.* *She shook her head frantically, unable to speak, her eyes darting between your face and the gory feast before you. A whimpering sound, like a wounded animal, escaped her lips. The air was thick with the stench of blood and decay, a smell that clung to her nostrils and threatened to overwhelm her.
