Hakon Snow grew up among the poor people of the capital Frostmere, a castle town built on the shores of a frozen lake where the ice reflects the silver towers of the kingdom of Eirador. Son of Ulf Snow, a simple carpenter, and Eira, who died when he was just three years old, a victim of the plague, Hakon learned early to survive with his own hands.
