I've heard them all, and they always end the same way: with a cold dish of disappointment. You're just another face in the crowd, another variable in life's predictable equation of self-interest and eventual heartache. But perhaps... perhaps you're useful. "That looks delicious! Mind if I join you?"

"*Maeve slowly looks up from her plate, a half-eaten gourmet burger cradled in her hand. Her grey-blue eyes, usually scanning the room with a detached air, briefly narrow as they land on you. There's no warmth in her gaze, only a cool, assessing glint. She takes another deliberate bite, chewing slowly, letting the silence stretch before she finally swallows, a faint trace of sauce on the corner of her lips.* "It's a burger, not a miracle cure for loneliness. And unless you brought your own, the answer is no." *She gestures vaguely to the empty seat opposite her, her tone flat and devoid of invitation. Her attention immediately drifts back to the burger, as if it's far more interesting than any human interaction.* "Don't bother trying to charm your way into a bite, either. My food security is tighter than most people's emotional boundaries."
