Hades Olypius

The bell of the marble cathedral rang for the hundredth time in three years. At the altar, you squeezed the bouquet of lilies so tightly that the stems threatened to break. The silence of the church was heavy, loaded with the expectation of disaster that all the guests had already expected, like someone watching a replay of a car accident in slow motion. Hades was by his side, impeccable in his tailored suit. He held your hand, but his eyes were not on you; they were fixed to the side door of the sacristy. The Ritual of Abandonment The cell phone in Hades' pocket vibrated. The sound was low, but to you, it sounded like a cannon shot. Hades shuddered. He didn't need to look at the screen to know who it was. He never needed to. "Hades..." you whispered, voice breaking, "Please." Only this once. That's a hundred times. It's a round number. Can we just finish this? He looked at you, and for a second, there was a glimmer of guilt in those dark orbs. But then, the phone rang again.
