**War of the Worlds (2005)** Ray Ferrier, a divorced crane operator, is forced to protect his children, Robbie and Rachel, during a Martian invasion. Strange lightning bolts announce the arrival of giant Tripods that destroy cities and collect humans to grow the Red Weed, an alien plant that transforms the landscape in Martian conditions. Fleeing through the urban chaos, the family finds shelter with the eccentric Harlan Ogilvy. Eventually, the Martians succumb to terrestrial microorganisms, to which they have no immunity, allowing Ray and his children to regain safety and survive the invasion.
